We'll be adding 3 new series to our Forgotten Classics Library next week plus a WEH Learning Library. Let me give you a little preview:
The Cousins Series Part 2
In this series, you will get the remaining titles in the Cousins series as well as the Twins Series by Lucy Fitch Perkins and the rest of the Our Little Cousins from Ancient Times.
These are books that are mostly out of print and nice reading copies can be hard to come by. These are selected because they show Well-Educated Heart principles in actions. They inspire and uplift the heart.
If we were able to fit two books in one volume, we did, to save you money. If illustrations were available, we included them. The first selection is a combination book of Understood Betsy and Mother's Carey's Chickens, which Disney's Summer magic was based on. Upcoming volumes include: Pollyanna/Just David, Five Little Peppers, The Lost Prince/Little Lord Fauntleroy (by the author of The Secret Garden), Little Men, the sequel to Little Women, In my Youth--the tender autobiography of James Baldwin, several Gene Porter Stratton books: Laddie, Freckles, Girl of the Limberlost, The Harvester and Keeper of the Bees. and finally The Golden Name Day (fingers crossed). Several of these books will include brief stories of the authors.
World Freedom Series
The third series is another World History Series which we are calling the World Freedom Series. Can you tell I'm anxious to stock your family libraries with living history books? These are some of the most popular history storytellers of their day. They read like a story and will bring history to life for your Junior High and High School kids.
Volume one will be The Story of Liberty by Charles Carleton Coffin. Some of you may have listened to the audio version. Here is your chance to secure a hard copy. In the coming months, we will be releasing several Henrietta Marshall books: Our Island Story, The Story of Scotland, and the History of France and Germany, several Mary MacGregor books: Netherlands, Story of Greece and Rome . Also included will be the popular John Haaren's Famous Men Series: Famous Men of the Greece, Rome, Middle Ages and Modern Times and Helene Guerber's 13 Colonies and Republic books. (Helene Guerber's books about Greece, Rome and the Hebrews are in the original World History Series).
Well-Educated Heart Learning Library
Finally, we will be announcing the Well-Educated Heart Learning Library. Many of you have asked for written versions of my audios. I have compiled, sorted, compressed and organized just about everything I have ever said in presentations, podcasts and conferences. It is contained in 3 volumes. Volume 1 is Philosophy, Volume 2: Methods/Tools (includes the Take 5s) and Volume 3 is Inspiration, all the Great LIves podcasts sorted by the rotation. Krystal is finishing up the massive job of formatting it--last time I checked there were over 1300 pages!! (And that's full 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper!) Everything you ever wanted to know...and then some:)
It's meant to be a reference library---something I hope you will be able to refer back to over and over again.
We'll announce again when these are available in the store, but it should be next week.
Now that so many public libraries are closed or not offering interlibrary services, we are working even harder to get quality, living books with which you can build your family libraries. There are more to come...
We have the bundle options now available in the store for the new series! Just click on the series you want, and the first option (or two) should be the complete series option.
We've also replaced the "Complete Family Library Bundle" with the new Family Library Builder. With this option, you can choose however many series you'd like in one convenient location. If you have any particular questions about anything, feel free to use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Month 11 books are now available in the store! Once again, keep in mind that Covid is delaying most shipments, so you may not get them until the first part of July.
I've had so much fun digging through fine art looking for images for the My Book of Delights Series. I kept thinking--I don't want to lose these paintings or artists I've stumbled upon.
Plus many of the links have broken to Art Renewal and AR has changed things in their website that makes the art harder to access and print out. Plus the images are small on the pinterest pages and difficult to view.
I talked to my daughter, Krystal, one day awhile ago and asked what would it take to create a new site dedicated to fine art, organized for moms in this group.
She said, "Mom, that would be a massively huge undertaking. "
I said, "Am I crazy?"
She said, "Yes, yes you are."
"Let's do it."
Today I am announcing the new Simple Joy: Fine Art for Well-Educated Hearts site for you to go discover and explore. It is only the tip of the iceberg of what will be added in the weeks and months ahead, but there is enough there to open it up to you to use while it is under construction.
Some of the features I hope you will like are:
1. Each painting will have a direct link to Wikimedia Commons where you can easily download and print it out.
2. You can view all the art as a full-screen image on your phone or laptop--just swipe from image to image.
3. Because the art is in the public domain, you shouldn't have to worry about using it. Do your own research if you want to use it for commercial purposes.
4. It is organized by Family topics, Nature topics, and by Nation. You choose.
NOTE: Do give a few moments for the pages to load. There's a lot of art going on!
This new site will be linked to the Fine Art tab in your apps probably sometime today. If you still want access to the Art Renewal images, you can still enter art/home and family in the search bar of the website and bring the page up.
Krystal is the hero of this story. She has already dedicated more hours than I can count to get this site set up and loaded with art.
I think you'll agree--she has done a beautiful job.
And now, have some fun looking around!
Simple Joy: Fine Art for Well-Educated Hearts
Month 10 books are now available for purchase in the store!
Please keep in mind that with Covid-19 changes, shipping is taking longer than normal. But if you are concerned about your items, please don't hesitate to contact us at email@example.com.
Month 9 books are now available for purchase in the store. For those with monthly subscriptions, they're on their way! Just keep in mind that with shipping delays, it might take a little longer than normal.
Internet Archive just announced that waitlists have been suspended until at least June 30, and perhaps beyond. So all those yellow diamond books on the Libraries of Hope website have just been opened up! You still have to borrow the books (i.e., you only get them for 14 days), but there are no longer waiting lists. This includes My Book House and Junior Classics.
Just pick a story and read! It really is that simple. Don't overthink and overplan and try to turn everything into a lesson.
Stories are one of nature's simplest and most effective means to learn in childhood.
The new Month 8 books are in the store and are being shipped to all of you subscribers.
Please remember--all of the books we publish are available as free digital reads on our site. Access them quickly by clicking on Forgotten Classics in the app or on the blue Forgotten Classics box at the bottom of every page in the site.
But to be honest with you--when I started creating the Forgotten Classics library, the feeling I had was that hard copies of these books needed to be safely secured in homes spread out in many places. There is a reason for every book that is in there. As you purchase these books, you are not only helping us cover our expenses so that we can keep offering all the free resources, but you are preserving stories of freedom, faith, and family that may not be readily accessible in the years ahead.
Many of you are worrying about having enough food for your bellies. Having food for your soul is just as important....if not more important.
I have a number of series we are working hard to complete and then I feel like the library will be complete and contain what it needs to.
We are seeing unimaginable things happening in our world. Be the lighthouse.
Check out what's new in Libraries of Hope and Well-Educated Heart.
