Month 1: A Mother's Influence

INSPIRATIONAL GEMS:
Picture
"We fancy that God can only manage His world with battalions, when all the while he is doing it by beautiful babies.  When a wrong wants righting, or a truth needs preaching or a continent needs opening, God sends a baby into the world . . . perhaps in a simple home and of some obscure mother.  And then God puts the idea into the mother's heart, and she puts it into the baby's mind. And then God waits.  The greatest forces in the world are not the earthquakes and thunderbolts.  The greatest forces in the world are babies."        --E.T. Sullivan

"Every young thing attaches itself to what is nearest and grows to be like it."  --Seneca

How to obtain a rich personality:  "By loving the beautiful, by reading the worth-while, by filling the mind with those things that are worth passing on, by cultivation of a cheery disposition, by striving toward high ideals."     --Margaret Eggleston

"The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender.  There are enough women who are coarse.  We need women who are kind.  There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined.  We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith.  We have enough greed.  We need more goodness.  We have enough vanity, we need more virtue.  We have enough popularity, we need more purity."      --Margaret Nadauld

WATCH:
Thanks, mom.
Dr. Gordon Neufeld: "You cannot parent a child whose heart you do not have."
Mr. Rogers: "A great gift of an adult to a child is to love what you do in front of a child."
Dr. Jenee Walker:  "Trust the process."
You only need to be once-a-day amazing.
Although the song is of a father, mothers are rescuers and protectors as well.

If you would like the science behind using an art-based learning platform, this is the book for you.  I met Dr. Melheim at a conference I spoke at and he shared his book with me.  He is doing amazing work using the arts in countries all over the world.  I've only been able to find his book at his website: richlearning.com.

Mother Culture: For a Happy Homeschool by Karen Andreola
"Karen Andreola, author of perennially popular Pocketful of Pinecones, has done it again. With Mother Culture, Andreola invites each of us to return to the roots of motherhood. In a culture of madness where everything needs to be bigger, faster and more spectacular, the author shares a vision of gentler learning, deeper relationships and closer families. Biblically-based and consistently practical, Andreola lays out a blueprint for every mother who longs for an exit strategy from the chaos of 21st-century parenting." --Jane and Steve Lambert, creators of Five in a Row
